Jewelry that tells a story
Monday, December 3, 2012
Hello!
A quick "thank you" to all the folks buying Cherche' jewelry at the Queen Bee! It's going quite well. It took me a while to get my act together after the baby, but I now feel like I've hit a stride. It's nice. I feel like I'm "back."
I've said time and time again my thoughts on jewelry and antique jewelry in particular. You've all heard me talk of the sentiment behind the piece that you acquire. Maybe I'm nostalgic, but I will always remember that my mom gave me her grandmothers gold necklace and earring set for Christmas when I was sixteen. I will always remember that my husband gave me a sterling and turquoise bracelet on our honeymoon. Feelings are evoked when I wear certain pieces of jewelry.
When I ran across an article on Pinterest via Garden and Gun, I knew I wanted to share here. It pretty much talks about what I've been saying on the topic of jewelry. It's an article about charm bracelets, something that is near to my heart. It's so personal and lovely.
If interested, read here.
Because I love relationships, sentiment, and stories, I therefore love jewelry. What better or more personal keepsake could there be?

Taxco bangles

A girl can never go wrong with a stack of sterling bangles.
Featured here are vintage Taxco bangle bracelets. When I was living in Anderson, I sold a huge, sterling Taxco bracelet to a sweet girl. I still remember because it was only after she purchased it, I realized the brand was in fact, Taxco, a much sought-after signature.
I hope that nice girl is still enjoying her steal of a deal.
Bangles!

Ahh, more bangles to the Cherche' collection.
A girl can never have enough bangles!
Sweet and dainty

Check out these sweet gold filled bracelets!
Sweet and dainty, just like a lady should be.
As always, they're great for stacking!
Sterling equestrian necklace

As promised, here is a sterling piece. I love this piece that I got at an antique show while I was 38 weeks pregnant. Go me.
I think it's stunning, but it's also plain enough to wear "everyday." Pair with a stack of sterling bangles, and you'll be on your way.
Football game or fun earrings

Anyone else super excited about LSU's win against Auburn Saturday?
Yea, me either. That was too close for comfort.
And as you know that particular game gets harder and harder for me to watch, sit through, or enjoy with each passing year. I like those Auburn Tigers, but I love my LSU Tigers a bit more.
If you are still excited about LSU's win or if you just like some fun, costume earrings that happen to be purple and gold, these might be up your alley!
They are awesome on! They are clip but very comfortable! They could be converted if you'd like, however.
I'll conclude with this : "Happy Football Season!" That seems to cover all the bases...

So I had the most precious baby 6 weeks ago this Wednesday! Boy, does time fly when you're busy...and having fun!
I'm so glad that I have this little side venture to myself when the days of motherhood seem difficult. So far everything has been pure joy. Really. But I know there will be a day when I need an outlet. Enter Cherche'.
I went to antique shows up until my 38th week of pregnancy. The only day I felt uncomfortable was my due date. It makes sense that I felt uncomfortable since I went into labor that evening.
Having an easy pregnancy lends itself to keeping up with a business. Or in this case, continuing to buy inventory! (My favorite thing.)
Today, I'm featuring a gold filled knot necklace with 3 turquoise stones. The "smooth" turquoise dates the piece to the late 1800s/early 1900s. The more "veiny" turquoise is more modern but still pretty in my opinion. This is just something I've learned while scouting out jewelry. Hope it helps if scouting is your thing too.

STERLING pieces coming up next...
Thank you!

Hello there! I hope everyone is staying cool this summer. That's been my goal for sure.
My "Cherche Anniversary" is coming up in August, as well as the birth of my baby! This August it will be three years since I came up with the little idea of buying and selling old jewelry. I have grown in knowledge and skill tremendously since August 2009, and I hope the trend continues.
I have made many friends along the way. It has been a rewarding and special journey, and I want to say "thank you!" I hope to do this indefinitely.
It warmed my heart last week when I got a thank you note from a customer saying how pleased she was with her purchase. Along with the note, she sent me a baby gift for my son. How thoughtful!
It's the little things that keep me going. I may be in and out these next few weeks as I adjust to motherhood, but please know that I am certainly here to continue running a business. Please email me if you're in need of anything jewelry-wise.
Etruscan bangle

One of my jewelers told me that I could throw away any part of this bangle, but if I would, please give him the hinge.
He says it's handmade, and as a craftsman, he wanted the old part.
I told him I wouldn't be throwing it away.
Here it is featured on the ol' blog for sale. Hand-made hinge and all.

Black onyx mourning jewelry
I seem to love Victorian mourning pieces of jewelry. There's something about black onyx that I love. It's so rich looking.
I hate calling it "mourning" jewelry, even though that's what it is. I opt to call it The Onyx Collection. It seems less morbid.
I have more in my stash, but these pieces are a beautiful start to my onyx collection for sale!

Gold filled tassel earrings
Monday, June 25, 2012
Hey there! I wanted to showcase some jewelry that I have before I deliver my baby. I've got about 6 weeks left, and I have no idea what my life will look like thereafter. So, I figured, I'd better try to sell some pieces now!
I love these earrings. I've had them a while and recently got them repaired. They are gold filled with beautiful etching designs. Of course, I love jewelry that moves, and these tassel earrings are wonderful on!
More to show!

I wanted to give a big thank you for those of you that came to my Baton Rouge show last week. It was my best show yet! The benefits of shows like that keep me going!
I sold lots of great things, but I have tons to showcase still! I'm getting better at keeping up a thriving inventory.

This is an antique gold filled knot that I just love. It looks so rich. I kept the pin on the back, but it can be easily removed if desired, though I find the luxury of having the pin and bale multi-functional, which is nice. The bale is soldered on the back and sits on an 18 inch gold filled chain.
Fob bracelet
Saturday, May 19, 2012
As promised, here is the first of (hopefully) a few pictures from Cherche. "Pictures from Cherche" happens when my husband has a little free time. I'm sure you've noticed that trend...
I love this piece. I've had the medals for a while and was waiting to put each of them on a sterling wire as four different necklaces. I then came across this heavy, good-looking, gold-filled link bracelet and thought it looked great this way. So here it is; ready to sell. As mentioned, the bracelet is gold-filled. The charms are sterling silver English medals from the early 1900s. One of them has the most beautiful initial engraving with the date 1914. The others have no engraving on the back.
I believe these were given as awards of some sort back in the day. A sterling keepsake certainly sounds better than a plastic four-foot trophy. Ahh, Americans...
Did I or didn't I?

I've had so many of you ask a very important question: did you get jewelry in France?
The answer is yes!
But it wasn't the abundance I was hoping for. I found everything to be expensive; too expensive. I had to have a level-headed perspective even though I was in France with "antiquites" luring me in.
I look forward to showcasing some jewelry before my upcoming show next week. Andrew said he could take pictures this weekend!
