Some new inventory and updated Spring calendar

I had some new inventory floating around, so I put some new items in The Queen Bee. 

It's hard to see, but that's a flat, gold filled bangle with black enamel and a safety chain. Many of you ask for just that criteria. 

I got these crown cufflinks converted to earrings. It's quite appropriate that these sit in The Queen Bee. Also shown is a brass brooch/pendant on a long chain with cabochon stones. 

This is a great right hand ring for someone who loves big statement jewelry. It gorgeous on the hand. 

I'm planning out my spring calendar to get substantial new inventory for those of you who are asking. There's a potential trip in March, and my trip to France is confirmed. We fly out on the 17th of April. I'm going for leisure, but I certainly intend to come home with a stash that is up for purchase. You might have to fight me to keep some of it, though. 

Let's just hope I stumble across the right pieces at the right prices. 

My meeting that was invaluable

As I mentioned a few days ago, I was scheduled to meet with someone who is one of the best in the antique jewelry business.

I met with her. Y'all, it was wonderful.

To sit and talk to someone who has 30+ years experience in the field that you want to really dig deep into was incredible. It was invaluable.

Not only does she have the knowledge and wisdom, but she also has kindness. She shared some information with me that's taken her years to develop. We shared a few laughs, a cup of coffee, and talked antique jewelry. It was one of the best days I've had since starting this business.

I was even given a few leads, so I'm meeting with someone else on Saturday. I hope this becomes a trend.

I hope and pray this it's me in 30 years having coffee with some naive young woman who wants to learn more about the antique jewelry business. She'll probably tell me that she's figuring it all out as she goes, pregnant and scared, made some mistakes, but is eager to learn.

I'll tell her that I've been there.

Let someone who admires you treat you to a cup of coffee and just share your knowledge. You just might make their day. Or their year.

Just a little tip

Alright. I feel as if I hoard all of my secrets of my digging and diving. So, I'll share a secret. And it's free.

I always pick up one of these when I'm out antiquing.

The antiquing magazine. 

It's free, and it gives great info on antique shows coming up and facts about history and antiques in general. 

The main point here is this: always stay curious, interested, and read a lot. Antiques are a subject of never-ending knowledge.

The grand opening

I've been a very busy girl. Pardon my absence.

The grand opening went so well. Thank you to all of you that came to support little ol me. The store looked incredible, and I've said it many times, but I'm so glad that my inventory is surrounded with such elegant decor. Shannon has got some good taste; I'm just glad she's asked me to be a small part of her adventure.

I told you she had good taste. So go check out the inventory at LD Interiors in Southdowns Village on Perkins Road. I'll be putting new stuff in often. Hope to get some good feed back from you! 

A new business venture

It's so awesome to see progress occur at the very time you need it. I'm speaking of a business prospect. 

I got asked to put my inventory in a local home decor section in a store here in Baton Rouge. I'm so proud to be working with someone you Baton Rouge girls know: Shannon Barksdale Mahon. She's got the best style, so it's fitting that she's an interior decorator. Many of you may know her sister, Lauren. If you don't know Lauren, you probably know her work, her art work, to be exact. Her art will also be in this store!

We're having a grand opening party and all are welcome to attend! This should be lots of fun, so please come and join us on October 6! 

I hope that many people are blessed by this endeavor, including me!

My time in north Louisiana

Last weekend, we went to north Louisiana for a wedding. While the girls were brunching and the guys were on their way all the way up the state, I went antiquing. Junking. Whatever you want to call it is fine with me. 

I love stumbling upon silver plate. I'm pretty sure there was probably some sterling in the bunch if I had dug a little harder. 

I love this pink dish collection. I see it often in my treks. My mom's aunt, I believe, had a lot of this. I have a feeling if I am ever pregnant with a girl, I won't be able to resist this!

I love milk glass. I'm partial to the hob nail milk glass, but I am very particular about what I like in this collection. I haven't found the perfect piece, so I continue to wait.

I did not purchase any of the above because my husband will surely have a cow if I bring another dish, glass, goblet, or tray home. Maybe once we get settled into a home one day, he'll let me have more of what I love! 

For some strange reason, this Spanish piece caught my eye, and I loved it. I surprise myself all the time. I strongly dislike Spanish or Italian influences in my personal style and decorating, but I loved the painting. I can't explain it. They asked $20 for it, so I thought it was a bargain. I, of course, had to talk them down. I got it for $18. I spent my remaining $2 on a coke. 

And it's made our way to the perfect place in our home. 

I love to go hunting. Even when it's not jewelry, it's still exciting, and I learn about antiques in general. I did get a few pieces of jewelry, though. I will reserve those pieces for another post!

Junk or treasure?

It's true what they say, "One man's junk is another man's treasure." 

Except I don't always find treasures when digging through junk. I do; however, always have a good time.
